3 Reasons Christians Should Memorize Scripture
In a world full of conflicting views, tragedy and chaos, it is easy to stand looking at both sides of an issue and not know who is right.
Lies, deception and truth all become more difficult to distinguish between and more often than not, even Christian women are left wondering where they stand on life’s most important issues.
We don’t want to be wrong.
We want to be made new in the image of Christ.
We want to be wise.
Our minds are often filled with the lies of the world and the deceptions of mainstream media. Our minds are being filled with bad television, poorly written literature and ads that promote self-centeredness. We have so much gross going in and we are forgetting to clean out all the filth with the good, pure, rich and the true word of God.
There are great reasons to fill your mind with scripture! Here are my top 3…
3 Reasons Christians should memorize scripture:
You might be deceived:
As difficult as it is to admit you might be believing a lie, or even more than one. The truth of scripture is the only way you are going to know if you are caught up in a shallow worldview. Digging deep into the scriptures and memorizing verses makes shallow lies and deceptive world views so much easier to detect.
“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[ of this world rather than on Christ.” Colossians 2:8
You want to be transformed:
We are called to be different than we once were. We are called to be transformed and renewed and so much (if not all) of the renewal process begins in our thought life. We want to be able to know what God’s will is for us because His will is perfect and pleasing and good!!! Isn’t that what we long for, to know we are walking in His perfect will for our life because he knows what is best!?!
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
Memorizing scripture has value:
Scripture comes from God! It’s the breath of life He breathed into Adam and we have it at our fingertips and completely take it for granted! In any season of life we can use the bible, its values and principles to help teach and encourage others. Knowing the Bible and having certain scriptures memorized equips us to be better women. God will use his Word to teach, correct and train us and we will in turn be able to use His Word to teach, correct and train others. The value is priceless.
