Maximize Your Social Media Reach With Video: Snapchat and Instagram Stories

With the roll out of Instagram stories it's becoming apparent that video content is the most effective way to engage your audience. Instagram implemented a missing piece that allows it's users to connect on a much deeper level. It's nice to see a beautifully curated feed but that doesn't foster a personal connection with the viewer and it doesn't convince someone to buy from you. With video, however, your viewers instantly feel an attraction towards you and your brand.

If you're still feeling unsure about putting yourself out there, here are 4 reasons you MUST start using video:

1. Video helps you stand out from the crowd: There are millions of creatives in the world, be it photographers, artists, etc. It's hard for potential clients to see a clear difference between services unless you can show them what makes you special. Your current clients may not be on snap chat but your future clients are. Start connecting with the younger crowd now so when they're looking for a photographer or are ready to buy some art you are the only choice in their mind

2. Clients want to see who they are working with: Dropping a lot of money on artistic services is a big deal. Prospective clients will feel much more comfortable paying your rates if they feel they can trust you. Show them your work flow, daily life, and how you interact with clients. You don't have to be super serious but keep in mind everything you post represents your brand. (Go ahead and get drunk in the club, just don't share it on social media!)

3. It fosters a feeling of friendship: Clients who regularly watch your snaps will feel like you are a friend, even if they've never met you. This is due to the phenomenon of parasocial relationships. If you talk to your snapchat like it's your best friend your viewers will bond with you. They will care about you as a person and they will trust your opinion. Some of my favorite snappers spend a lot of time talking to the camera. They could be just talking about their day and I find it interesting because I care about them as a person. I feel like I'm catching up with a friend but it requires no energy output from me.

4. It increases engagement: If you ask your viewers for feedback or share a personal story people can relate to, they will naturally message you with their input. Both Snapchat and Instagram Stories make this easy to do while you're viewing someone's story. This allows you to start a conversation with your followers and build on your relationship.
